Women's Health Physiotherapy

This is a branch of physiotherapy that works on supporting Women on their journey of pregnancy, motherhood and menopause.

The science

Pelvic floor dysfunction impacts 1 in 3 women in their lifetime, and pelvic health Physiotherapy is the recommended first line treatment.

Women’s Health Physiotherapy is a specialised physiotherapy service aimed at treating the broad spectrum of physical changes and issues that occur throughout a woman’s life, with particular focus on the pelvis and pelvic floor.  At DBC Physiotherapy, our experienced and compassionate team, strive to educate and support you to restore your pelvic floor function.

What to expect from your first session?

At your first appointment, we will have a long detailed discussion about your symptoms, medical history and any concerns you may have.

If your condition requires an internal examination, we will explain in detail how this is performed and continue with this. If you consent to having an internal examination this allows us to carry out a more detailed assessment of your pelvic floor function. If you do not feel comfortable with an internal examination there are other alternatives. This can be discussed with your physiotherapist during your initial assessment.

Following our assessment, an individualised plan will be made, which may include pelvic floor strengthening, pelvic floor release, breathing/relaxation techniques, and perhaps some recommended lifestyle changes.

Conditions we treat:

Some of the typical symptoms and conditions that we treat are:

  • Pregnancy related pain
  • Post natal check ups
  • Abdominal separation
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Overactive bladders
